This video is NOT PLASTERING RELATED!
That said I really had fun making it earlier in the year and since I did, I thought I'd post it.

Large Ceiling Skim - Before and After [Boarding and plastering a house bonus footage]
I gave up at the tools, far too complex for me to attempt
Okay my fat butt thought that was chocolate ice cream 😂
No staggering??
Currently moving into an older house and this guy makes it look easy. If I give it a go it'll look like a 4 yr olds done it with their hands😂
How does the rest of the plaster not fall off your hawk when you do that at 2:51?
Just bought a house previous owner had a leak he didn’t disclose, I’m getting a new bathroom regardless for like 6-7k, that was the plan anyway, this fix seems simple enough for the downstairs ceiling cheers for the video
Nice job no sanding or dust
Brilliant video, follow instructions and plastered a bedroom. Turned out great really happy thank you
this is just dabbing. dotting is creating a plum surface with dots with quickset mud, let them harden and then dab and then push your boards against the dots so they are plum. but todays technique is just dabbing and using your leveler and tapping. should be called dab n tap in our era.
How many bags of adhesive did you use for that wall boys?
Brilliant video mate , saved to favourites , could you please tell me is that weberpral M your using i am assuming the normal weber cannot be scraped and has a more cement smooth texture .
Yes Weberpral M, that's what I'm using, Weber OCR is what leaves a smooth sand and cement style finish.
Just had my first try there and pretty pleased with the results. Took me a while though but much appreciated 👍
Got a new place. Need to plaster the walls. Gonna watch this video then pay an Albanian guy to do it.
😂
Hi did you add the beads before or after base coat? 👍
Your attention to detail is top notch. I also noticed you keep track of the time and take measured intervals for the next steps, very neat trick. Very Good WORK!
Hi mate Can we skim straight over tile back board ?
Thank you. I take it the PVA is in stead of bonding liquid.
Damn, like poetry in motion!
for a beginner do you work 1 wall at the time?
What was done about mold detection and removal?
Each coat I'm questioning why more.. 1st was glass, I as a beginner only tend to do one coat and then a water finish once maybe twice. Only house based but works for me. Do these extra coats/routines add anything I should be considering doing? I like how you brush your edges. my old man always told me to do that and never seen another social media plasterer do this, so glad I'm not alone even as a novice
also.. I know you've focused on one wall with your timings but I'm guessing after 1st coating one wall you 1st coat another and whilst thats going tacky you 2nd coat the 1st wall etc etc
Only in Britain…
Our ceiling just got fixed and it has smelled HORRIBLE for 2 weeks now anybody have any idea how to remedy this???? Please help
Any pre-browning clips available
Thanks for this video. A company TX was charging me 1000 just to dry the inside of the ceiling and another 500 to fix it. If its showing moisture should I dry it myself. It was an ac leak from the second floor that made a bubble on my living room? just a little bubble that requires a 2x4 drywall
How long do u leave the pva glue on before the first plaster
This was lovely; thank you for taking the time to make this video :) Has been a very big help to me!
Whats the screw driver to use for these
Excellent job Well done
So what is a float used for then? Sorry I'm a complete novice
A float is used to close render or backing plaster. It basically makes it smooth either to sponge finish or ready for the finishing coat. You don't float the skim coat.
@ryanseeley I see, thanks for the info 👍🏼
Great video 👍🏼 thanks
Does this work with Tile Adhesive?
What type of mortar you are using ?
Consistency = meringue egg mix iyam.
Great video chaps, I'm a 52 year old diy'er and love to learn from guys like you. Better than the BBC.
Well done mate. Maybe you know why the finishing plaster goes hard in a bucket in minutes even when mixed very thin?
Usually that's out of date bag, or exposed to moisture due to poor storage
@@ryanseeley Thanks. It's been opened for some time tbh
What kind of tape did you used?
It's called scrim tape
Hi is the darker grey the primer , the lighter grey the Webber monocoque thank you
What is the tub litre capacity for 25kg bag? Thanks
How long did it take you to do that job? Also, how much do you think it would cost? I understand it is a per hour rate, right?
If I remember correctly, this job took around 3 hours or so (half a day) to do and I probably charged around £180 - £220 including the materials
I was always told plasterboard should run length ways because of its grain. That using it in upright position the plaster will crack eventually
Thanks for this. I am going to fix my sister's bedroom ceiling this weekend.
F7ck me its dynamo
Didn’t think mesh was needed for the Weber OCR.
H Ryan thank you for showing me how to do skimming. I'm worried that it may not work and last for me ? I have and old flatlet. the outside walls has been painted 5 time since 2004. There is also a texture on the walls. I wanted the texture flattened and remove all the paint to get to be cement layer. Yor ways seems elegant that does not required me to strip the layers of paint and flatten the service ? Is that correct
We have roaches coming from a big uh… crack.. ?? :)) we sit right under where they jump down. This is the closest video i could find and we dont have the money for this 😭
Mist paint ?
Do you mean primmer. You should said it right
I skimmed over my sons artex ceiling... 2 coats and i managed to get great results. Using a thicker mix so it sticks to the ceiling... Moving to a new house that will need wall skimmed so will apply the same techniques used here.
Hi Ryan, are you still working for British gypsum and running those site skimming courses?
Hi, yes I still work for British Gypsum and we still take care of the skim courses.
@@ryanseeley ok great. So I do have some plastering experience (the skimming side of it). I read that there is a qualification at the end of the course. Does that mean that I will be qualified to go on site on my own and be good enough to get a job? Also what is minimum meterage I need to cover to be able to work on site as a skimmer? Cheers
